When life stages collide—menopause or perimenopause

There are certain seasons in life when everything seems to shift at once.

For many women, middle age can be a time when their career enters a new phase, their children have grown up or left home, and their bodies begin to change in unfamiliar ways. The emotional and psychological burden of menopause or perimenopause, along with a loss of joy from personal connections, can be overwhelming. For many women, feeling that they are no longer as attractive as they used to be, or thinking that they no longer fit into their clothes, is a conversation I’m all too familiar with.

What can you do when everything hits you at once and hormonal changes show up at the same time??

Truth is, hormones are real. Weight gain and bodily changes are real. Relationship dynamics are real. When midlife stages collide, it is complex and confusing. This is a crucial moment to invest in yourself and seek help. As we age, many women notice changes around the midsection. The key isn’t to hide your figure but to dress it intelligently (Please do not believe everything you see on social media).

  • Fabrics make a huge difference. Stiff materials tent out over curves, while thin, clingy fabrics highlight each body shape. Instead, aim for mid-weight, fluid, soft fabrics that move with you—such as soft crepes or viscose.
  • Pay attention! Where do you finish your tops? Avoid tops that finish directly at the widest point.
  • High-waisted trousers and skirts can work perfectly.
  • Belts draw attention to your stomach area – don’t use it if you haven’t got a slim waist.
  • Avoid items with pockets at the waistline (most cardigans and jackets do); keep it simple and detail-free.
  • Slimming prints are a terrific way to draw attention away from your tummy.

If you’re at the crossroads of your life, your style should evolve as well. As I always say, what you wear can change the way you feel.
