We love the idea of New Year’s Resolutions, and the fresh start effect is one of the reasons why most people begin a new diet. Decluttering your wardrobe at the start of a new year implies a new, stylish you and a functional wardrobe. By getting rid of your old clothes and adding a few new ones each year, you can keep your wardrobe looking fresh, modern, and up to date.
– Clothes can communicate. Do your clothes reflect who you are? Who are you now? How would you like to be seen?
– Do your clothes fit your current body shape?
– A high-quality outfit will enhance your appearance and elevate you. Fabric is one of the key components of quality. When worn, a high-quality fabric will look better and last much longer
– What you need to wear will depend on how you spend your time. Many of us hold onto clothing that is no longer appropriate for our current lifestyle.
If that is the case, it might be helpful to divide your wardrobe requirements into different levels of refinements.
- Relaxed Casual
- Sporting or hobby wear
- Smart Casual
- Smart Business
- Formal wear
- Corporate business
Then you can add percentages of how much time you spend in each category of clothing. This will give you an idea of how much of each type of clothing you need in your wardrobe.
Assess your clothing to see the reflection. The proportion of clothing you own and wear should be reflected in the percentage of time you spend wearing it. There is no point in having a smart business wardrobe if you spend the majority of your time in relaxed casual clothing.
So my humble suggestion to you, at the start of the year, is to assess your wardrobe and ask yourself, “What is stopping me from moving forward?” You want your clothes to make you look better instead of making you look less attractive.
As always, keep in mind that what you wear can change the way you feel.
